Berlin Fashion Week has undergone some fundamental changes since its debut in 2007. What has been the most significant transformation of the Berlin Fashion Week format for you to date?
It is a constant process that we all go through together. While for a long time there was one show location where all designers presented their collections to the press and buyers, today everything is different. Each designer tells his/her own story, in a different location, with his/her own models, and in the front row, alongside buyers and the media, there are also content creators and the community. Our trade show formats have also changed a lot. It has long since ceased to be just about ordering, but also about content, culture and community at PREMIUM and SEEK. Emotionalization, eventization, matchmaking and the target group focus describe the character of our events today.
Since last season, Berlin Fashion Week has increasingly undergone a change of heart: the focus is on innovative formats, young designers and sustainable concepts. How do you rate this positive change for Berlin Fashion Week in an international comparison?
Grass doesn't grow any faster if you pull on it and in this respect it took two decades until the right structures were put in place to make the potential visible and to develop. Personally, I am delighted that so much incredibly good creative potential is coming from Berlin and at all levels. It would be a shame to limit it to just the designers. We have very successful and innovative formats in all areas that have emerged or are emerging in this context. It's about retail, beauty, agencies, communication, media, content creators, etc.
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming Berlin Fashion Week?
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. There is an organized framework twice a year that everyone comes to and where the entire industry meets. My personal highlight is PREMIUM and SEEK, as we meet the majority of all brands, press representatives and, above all, buyers there.
Together with Premium, the FCG is organizing its CURATED by Fashion Council Germany showroom on July 11 and 12, 2023. More information can be found at the following link.
